Last night was the annual perigeee moon. I understand that it was also an awesome sight in Manhattan. During the last perigee moon I tried to chase it down in an optimum location. This year I just stood on my deck and wandered about in the yard with better results. © April Pinsonneault

The Garden of Remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance is on Manhattan's southernmost point. I had been wandering around "South Ferry" taking pictures then was magnetically drawn to this park due to the setting sun. I had no idea that I would stumble upon something so uniquely touching. This is my first view of the park dedicated to Navy Seals who died in action. All of the stone walls have names of the deceased. © April Pinsonneault

This bread rack was taken in NYC's upper East Side on aAmsterdam Avenue at a small cafe/restaurant named Le Pain. It is a hip classy little place and part of a chain so the restaurants vary in size.

Once in awhile the people who live in Hawaii have the opportunity to visit a taste of old Hawaii. In some cases there are pockets of serious Hula schools performing. In many cases it is in the tourist hot spots where we see a performance, such as this one, during dinner.

This was taken during sunset on my one trip to the top of Rockefeller Center. The light plays off of the park side better than it did off of the Empire State Building which is on the other side of the roof. This HDR has ultimately surprised me with it's beautiful capture: the golden wash of light and flat matt colors convey the magic of this classical scene that fills my heart with the greatness of NYC

Sliding Sands Trail, is right below the summit of Mt. Haleakala on Maui. I am ashamed to say that it is right in my backyard and I haven't spent more time there. The trail reads like it's name and is very much like walking in the desert. A dormant volcano crater, one has to look for the subtleties of beauty and be prepared for unexpected weather changes.

For most of the past 15 years I see the airport tower on my way to and from work and by two different routes and perspectives. Kula Cactus

Mountainous scenes be-speckled with cactus and old wooden sheds are not typically what people think of in terms of Hawaii. Much to the surprise of many, upcountry has an extremely active cowboy, "paniolo" heritage particularly from Latin American and Puerto Rican islanders who are among the first inhabitants along with oute rislanders who settled here. There is an excellent documentary on this called Paniolo Hawaii. This was taken 20 minutes from where I live in Kula...upcountry, Maui. April Pinsonneault ©2012.

It is officially 2012 now. Whew...and the world didn't end. Pinch me. This photo is a bit of memorabila representing the, unofficial, bi-annual pyrotechnic competition that occurs throughout 3 or 4 neighborhoods that can be viewed from my deck. Unlike planned fireworks it was a difficult shoot because I never knew which part of the neighborhood would be firing and so I couldn't position my lenas without missing great shots. ©April Pinsonneault 2012

Misty Christmas

This was an attempt to capture mist rising across a golf course caused by fall out from a sprinkler. I used a polorarizer so that iI could shoot at a low shutter speed but kept my apaerture high because in truth it was bright and sunny. This is a moody interpretation of that moment.

This santa is a hand carved vintage plantation relic that belongs to the former Plantation Store in Paia, Maui. The carving was there on the sidewalk all year round for the 15 years that i had been here until one year after I took the picture. in 2009. I am happy that I took the photo when I did.

I was walking with a friend of mine, in Central Park, NYC, and this Squirrel stopped us in our tracks. We were definately surprised to see the Squirrel rolling along an apple that appeared in some ways bigger than him.

Parking Lot Gems is inspired by David Nightingale's collection of odd things and trash taken randomly on the beach or other places of interest. This arrangement of the glass and leaf are photographed as they were found in the parking lot of Paia, Maui although I don't think that place figures very much into this photo. What I discovered, in trying to produce something in the trash genre, is that it is very hard although I don't think that David Nightingale finds it difficult at all. April Pinsonneault ©2011

The Angel of Water fountain resides in East Central Park in Manhattan. I have quite a few nice shots of this and spent a great deal of time in the glaring sun studying the statue. In Seaside Heights, New Jersey, the eastern most point is a state park called Island Beach. A sanctuary for birds and home to wildlife such as fox that live in lowlying brush and dunes, a favorite sanctuary of mine on the East coast.
